Scripture on which this lesson is based:
Daniel 11:40.
Introduction: The spiritual lesson we will see is that “God is overruling all for the accomplishments of His purposes” (Education 178). We will see how the power that rules the land of Egypt is identified as the king of the south both in Daniel 11 and in Revelation 11:9. The king of the north will be identified as that power that rules the area that controls Babylon (Jer. 25:9 and Ezekiel 26:7). The king of the north is identified as the Papacy or spiritual Babylon (Revelation 17:4-6, 18 and GC382). The deadly wound of Revelation 13 will be healed when the Papacy takes control of the world as described by Malachi Martin and the Great Controversy. 1. Read Daniel 11:40. Who is the King of the South and who is the King of the North? (TE16:10/Rev. 11:8) By comparing Daniel 11 to history we can tell that whoever controlled the country of Egypt was the southern king and whoever controlled the land which included Babylon was the northern king. Note that prophecy uses local occurrences to demonstrate more generalized applications (the worldwide is symbolized by the local). Note also that Israel’s history shows the experiences of the church today. (See TE16) 2. Read Revelation 11:8. Figuratively, who is represented as the “great city” in this verse? (TE17:1/GC269-270 and TE17:14—last par.) Answer: The great city here is SPIRITUALLY Egypt. (The time of the end began in 1798. Since this date is after the cross we must look for spiritual Egypt and spiritual Babylon in identifying the kings of the south and north.) A city is a kingdom. Rev. 11:8 shows that France is a great city, and Rev. 17:18 shows a great city to be Babylon. 3. Read Exodus 5:2. What was the philosophy of Pharaoh of Egypt? Answer: Atheism says such things as “who is Jehovah, that I should let Israel go?” 4. How did the king of the south push against the king of the north a little before 1798? (TE17:2,3/GC269-270) Answer: To push means to war. In the French Revolution of 1793 France openly rebelled against God (GC269-270). 5. What is Rome aiming to do? (TE18:6/GC581) Answer: Rome wants to re-establish her power and recover her lost supremacy. When that happens the deadly wound (Rev. 13:3) given by Napoleon, emperor of France when he had his general take the pope prisoner will be healed. The Papacy stopped being a kingdom politically in 1793 but will again take control of the world as described in “The Keys of This Blood” by Malachi Martin. Inspiration states that Rome boasts that she never changes and that she will again dominate the consciences of people. 6. Read Daniel 12:4. Where does the sequence of events in Daniel 11:40-45 really end in the book of Daniel? (TE19:11) Answer: These scenes portrayed at the end of Daniel 11 don’t end until Daniel 12:4. Note that when the time of trouble of Daniel 12:1 comes, probation is closed, there is no more mercy and the seal of the Living God is on His people (5T212-213) The king of the north comes to his end some time after the close of probation because at that time Michael will stand up. We will note here also that the war of atheism against the Papacy continued until 1989 when the Soviet Union fell. 7. What has to happen before the wound of the Papacy will be healed completely? (TE19:last 2 par. And TE20:1,2) Answer: The Papacy must overcome 3 spiritual walls just like Pagan Rome had to overcome the 3 horns (Dan. 8:9: the Vandals, Goths, and Heruli) before coming into world power. These 3 spiritual walls are: a) the Soviet Union, (this Iron Curtain was removed in 1989) b) the “glorious land” of the United States (this will happen when the USA passes a national Sunday law showing she is bowing to the Papacy), and c) the world (this will come to pass when the Papacy has control of the world’s economic structure and can prevent buying and selling for the whole world, Rev. 13:16). 8. What is the separating wall between the world and God’s people? (TE20:7/EW33) The Sabbath of the Ten Commandments in Ex. 20:10 will separate the true Israel of God from unbelievers. This will unite God’s dear, waiting saints. Summary: In this lesson we have seen that the kings of the north and south have been identified in history by the power that controls the geographical areas of Babylon and Egypt. The spiritual application shows that Babylon represents the Papacy and Egypt represents atheism. God is in charge of events and has a protecting wall (the Sabbath) for His people.
